It forms part of the chain of the Lesser Sunda Islands, with the Lombok Strait separating it from Bali to the west and the Alas Strait between it and Sumbawa to the east. It is roughly circular, with a "tail" (Sekotong Peninsula) to the southwest, about 70 km across and a total area of about 4,725 km² (1,825 sq mi). The provincial capital and largest city on the island is Mataram. It is somewhat similar in size and density with neighboring Bali and shares some cultural heritage, and is now like its neighbor become a hot tourist destination, but is administratively part of NTB along with sparsely populated Sumbawa. It is surrounded by a number of smaller islands locally called Gili.

The island is home to some 3.16 million Indonesians [1][2][3] as recorded in the decennial 2010 census, and in 4 regencies along with the provincial capital Mataram.

The Lombok Strait lies to the immediate west of the island and this waterway marks the passage of the biogeographical division between the fauna of the Indomalayan ecozone and the distinctly different fauna of Australasia that is known as the Wallace Line, for Alfred Russel Wallace [1], who first remarked upon the distinction between these two major biogeographical regions and how abrupt the boundary was between the two biomes.[4]

To the east of Lombok lies the Alas Strait, a narrow body of water separating the island of Lombok from the nearby island of Sumbawa to the east.

The island's topography is dominated by the centrally-located stratovolcano Mount Rinjani, which rises to 3,726 m (12,224 ft), making the second highest volcano in Indonesia and the nations third highest mountain. The most recent eruption of Rinjani was in May, 2010 at Gunung Barujari. Ash was reported as rising up to two km into the atmosphere from the Barujari cone in Rinjani's caldera lake of Segara Anak. Lava flowed into the caldera lake, pushing its temperature up and crops on the slopes of Rinjani were damaged by ash fall. The volcano, and its crater lake, 'Segara Anak' (child of the sea), are protected by the Gunung Rinjani National Park established in 1997.

The highlands of Lombok are forest clad and mostly undeveloped. The lowlands are highly cultivated. Rice, soybeans, coffee, tobacco, cotton, cinnamon, cacao, cloves, cassava, corn, coconuts, copra, bananas and vanilla are the major crops grown in the fertile soils of the island. The southern part of the island is fertile but dryer especially toward the southern coastline.

The water supply in Lombok is stressed and this places strain upon both the water supply of the provincial capital, Mataram, and the island in general. The southern and central areas are reported to be the most critically effected. West Nusa Tenggara province in general is threatened with a with water crisis caused by increasing forest and water table damage and degradation. 160 thousand hectares of a total of 1960 thousand hectares are thought to have been effected. The Head of Built Environment and Security Forest Service Forest West Nusa Tenggara Andi Pramari stated in Mataram on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 that, "If this situation is not addressed it can be expected that within five years it may be difficult for people to obtain water in this part of NTB (West Nusa Tenggara). Not only that, the productivity of agriculture in value added will fall, and the residents are experiencing water deficiency in their wells". High cases of timber theft in the region of NTB are contributing to this problem.[5] In September 2010 Central Lombok some villagers were reported to be walking for several hours to fetch a single pail of water. Nieleando, a small coastal village about 50 kilometers from the provincial capital, Mataram, has seen dry wells for years. It has been reported that occasionally the problem escalates sufficiently for disputes and fighting between villagers to occur. The problems have been reported to be most pronounced in the subdistricts of Jonggat, Janapria, Praya Timur, Praya Barat, Praya Barat Daya and Pujut. In 2010 all six sub-districts were declared drought areas by provincial authorities.[6] Sumbawa, the other main island of the province, also has experienced severe drought in 2010, making it a province-wide issue.[7]
test feed

Gili Islands – Party Island, Great Dive Sites and Spectacular White Beaches at Indonesia

Courtesy from : lombokislands.com

The Gili Islands (Indonesian:Tiga Gili [Three Gilis], Kepulauan Gili [Gili Islands]) are an archipelago of three small islands — Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air — just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia.

The islands are a popular destination for Western tourists looking for a remote island experience. Each island has several small resorts, usually consisting of a small collection of huts for tourists, and a restaurant. Most local inhabitants live in the hilly interior of the island. Automobiles and motorized traffic are prohibited on the islands by local ordinance, so the preferred method of transportation is bicycle or the horse-drawn carriage called a cidomo. Diving in and around the Gilis is also popular, although the prices are fairly high due to local cartel activities. The name “Gili Islands” is a bit of a misnomer, because Gili simply means “small island” in Sasak.

GILI TRAWANGAN
Gili Trawangan is the largest of Lombok’s Gili Islands and is the only one to rise significantly above sea level. It is 3km long and 2km wide with a population of about 1000. Of the Gilis, Trawangan has the most tourist facilities; the pub Tîr na Nôg claims that Trawangan is the smallest island in the world with an Irish pub. The most crowded part of Trawangan lies on the eastern side.

On Gili Trawangan (as well as the other two Gilis), there are no motorized vehicles. The main means of transportation are bicycles (rented by locals to tourists) and cidomo (a small horsedrawn carriage). For traveling to and from each of the Gilis, locals usually use motorized boats and speedboats.

The Gili islands are renowned not only for their friendly inhabitants but the total tropical island paradise feeling that they have. The white coral beaches, the warm and inviting waters all invite to snorkeling, sun bathing and of course diving. The diversity of aquatic life is astounding and just off the shores you can find turtles, sting rays, reef sharks, baracudas, and a myriad of small and large fish.
test feed

Palawan Beach at Singapore

With a suspension bridge linking beach-goers to the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia (and also Asia's closest point to the Equator), Palawan Beach, Singapore's happiest family beach, boasts interesting shops and eateries that are a favourite with adults and children alike.

Whatever you decide to do, you are bound to have fun at this family-friendly beach.

Ahoy kids! It is one of the country's 33 provinces with the provincial capital at Denpasar towards the south of the island.

With a population recorded as 3,551,000 in 2009,[2] the island is home to the vast majority of Indonesia's small Hindu minority. About 93.2% of Bali's population adheres to Balinese Hinduism, while most of the remainder follow Islam. It is also the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music.

Your map guidance of BALI

The island of Bali lies 3.2 km (2 mi) east of Java, and is approximately 8 degrees south of the equator. Bali and Java are separated by Bali Strait. East to west, the island is approximately 153 km (95 mi) wide and spans approximately 112 km (69 mi) north to south; its land area is 5,632 km².

Bali's central mountains include several peaks over 2,000 metres. The highest is Mount Agung (3,142 m), known as the "mother mountain" which is an active volcano. Mountains range from centre to the eastern side, with Mount Agung the easternmost peak. Bali's volcanic nature has contributed to its exceptional fertility and its tall mountain ranges provide the high rainfall that supports the highly productive agriculture sector. South of the mountains is a broad steadily descending area where most of Bali's large rice crop is grown. The northern side of the mountains slopes more steeply to the sea and is the main coffee producing area of the island, along with rice, vegetables and cattle. The longest river, Ayung River, flows approximately 75 km.

The island is surrounded by coral reefs. Beaches in the south tend to have white sand while those in the north and west have black sand. Bali has no major waterways, although the Ho River is navigable by small sampan boats. Black sand beaches between Pasut and Klatingdukuh are being developed for tourism, but apart from the seaside temple of Tanah Lot, they are not yet used for significant tourism.

The largest city is the provincial capital, Denpasar, near the southern coast. Its population is around 491,500(2002). Bali's second-largest city is the old colonial capital, Singaraja, which is located on the north coast and is home to around 100,000 people. Other important cities include the beach resort, Kuta, which is practically part of Denpasar's urban area; and Ubud, which is north of Denpasar, and is known as the island's cultural centre.

Three small islands lie to the immediate south east and all are administratively part of the Klungkung regency of Bali: Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. These islands are separated from Bali by the Badung Strait.

To the east, the Lombok Strait separates Bali from Lombok and marks the biogeographical division between the fauna of the Indomalayan ecozone and the distinctly different fauna of Australasia. The transition is known as the Wallace Line, named after Alfred Russel Wallace, who first proposed a transition zone between these two major biomes. When sea levels dropped during the Pleistocene ice age, Bali was connected to Java and Sumatra and to the mainland of Asia and shared the Asian fauna, but the deep water of the Lombok Strait continued to keep Lombok and the Lesser Sunda archipelago isolated.
test feed

Wisata Kuliner Bali

Jl. Komodo, Sanglah – Denpasar
Salah satu yg paling populer di tengah kota Denpasar. Menu nya mulai dari cap-cay, nasi goreng (ayam, spesial, sea-food dan masih ganyak variasi lagi), mie goreng and kuah, fuyung hay, bakso and semacemnya. update: sekarang ada siomay. Soal rasa, disini ok lah. Harganyajuga bagus. Nasi goreng ato capcay skitar Rp. 4000 – 6000 seporsi.

Padahal 3 tahun lalu udah upgrade kapasitas, tapi tetap saja, pengunjung membludak. Gw kalo mau beli bungkus bisa abis 2 cangkir kopi selagi nunggu pesanan kelar :( So kalo kamu pengen nyari yang namanya suasana, jangan disini deh. Sumpek and penuh asep.

Warung Krisna (?)
Jl. Kutat Lestari, Sanur. Deket Jl. Danau Tempe
First of all, kalo kamu nyasar di daerah Sanur en kemudian bertanya sama orang, hindari yg berikut, “Danau Tempe dmana ya?” hehe Secara Danau Tempe adalah kawasan yg mirip Taman lawang.

Review rasa: OK! (bukan dari hongkong). Sebaiknya dateng sebelum kam makan siang berakhir (dibawah jam 3). Karena biasanya sangat laris dan cepat habis. Harga juga OK. Porsi standar + es jeruk, skitar Rp 7000-9000. Recomended.

Warung Satria

Warung Nikmat
Jl. Bakung Sari, Kuta
Tempat makan favorit bagi para pekerja kantoran. Walopun letaknya di gang kelinci tapi siang2 jam istirahat selalu bejubel. Menunya masakan umum (Jawa?), ada ayam santan, ayam bumbu manis, sate bumbu manis dan bumbu kacang, telur bumbu manis, telur santan (dari tadi bumbu mulu) Kira2 menunya sperti tu lah.

Sesuai nama warungnya, masakan sini lumayan nikmat. Tapi dianjurkan ga kesini 7 hari berturut-turut. Dijamin bosen.

Warung Lesehan (Genteng Biru)
Sekitar Jl.
Menunya antara laen, cap-cay, fuyung hay, nasi goreng (biasa and seafood), mie goreng and kuah, dan sebangsanya.

Harga relatif mahal, karena suasananya lumayan asik buat ngobrol rame2. Asal jangan pas tempatnya penuh aja. Sumpek! Ayam bakar sekitar 7000-9000 per potong, nasi goreng 5000-7500, ikan gurami panggang ato koloke bisa 8000-15000. Makan bedua sekitar 20000-35000 tergantung ukuran perut kamu.

Review rasa: sedang agak enak, skala 0-100 gue kasi nilai 75. O ya, mereka juga nyedia-in menu lokal semacem “plecing kangkung”, sambel tempe dsb. Liat sendiri deh, masa menunya mau gue ketik semua? Hanya buka malem hari, mulai jam 7 sampe jam 1-2 pagi.

Nasi Jinggo
tersebar di seluruh Denpasar diatas jam 10 malem
Popularitasnya mulai memudar seiring waktu. padahal 1-3 tahun lalu Nasi Jinggo merupakan cara makan paling murah meriah di Denpasar. Nasi jinggo tuh simple aja.

Kesimpulannya, bisa ngilangin stress deh, udah terbukti ama crew tdb kok. he..he..

Sambel mulai asal, gampang bikin diare. Nasinya kadang ga enak, karena beras mahal kale, jadinya pake RasKin. Pedagang laen memilih ‘menghemat’ ukuran, satu bungkus sebesar kepalan tangan cewe, halah… makan 6 bungkus juga masih kurang.

Ikan Bakar Pantai Jimbaran
Pantai Jimbaran (Kedonganan), 15 km Selatan denpasar, sekitar 5 km dari Kuta
Coba deh kamu menyusuri pantai jimbaran, kamu bakal nemuin ratusan resto seafood pinggir pantai. Menu utamanya, tentu aja Ikan Bakar! Disamping juga beberapa menu penunjang semacem sayuran tumis, sambel-sambelan and beberapa jenis gorengan.

Tapi…ati2 neh ama bujet kamu. makan disini berat diongkos! Ikan panggang satu bisa nyampe 50-000 ampe 80.000 (porsi berempat). plus nasi and segala lauknya, total bisa ngabisin 200.000-an untuk 4 orang. Maklum, yang dijual ngga cuma makanan, tapi suasana and atmospherenya..

Warung Pacenongan
Jl. By Pass Sanur, di sekitar Jl. Bet Ngandang
Ok, gw pribadi baru beberapa kali kesini, jadi ga bisa review banyak. Bangunan warungnya sederhana cenderung payah.

Menu andalannya sea food. Gw smpet coba cumi greng tepung nya, mak nyos bgt.

My Gosh, emang kita lagi makan di Ku De Ta? MAHAL AMAT! At least untuk dekor warung sperti itu, agak keterlaluan neh harganya. Tekor deh.
Conclusion: Cocok buat yg pengen ENAK dan ga masalah dgn HARGA.

Warung Laennya

Asn choose: KFC Gelael
Asn choose: McD Sanur
Asn choose: Pizza Hut Kuta Center
Cocok buat pdkt, ato janjian ama partner bisnis. Tapi sayang, Dunkin skrang mahal. 1 Donut + Cappuccino = Rp. 25rb, huah.. mau ngikutin starbuck?
Asn choose : Dunkin Simpang 6

sumber from : tourdebali dot com
test feed
